TDI Decompression Proceedures
Ever found yourself wandering what the deal is with those people jumping in the water with loads of cylinders hanging off them? Do you want to spend more than twenty minutes on the wreck that you got up so early in the morning to get to? What to learn new skills and take on new challenges? Want to take on new dives that had previously been beyond your training?
If the answer to any of these questions is 'yes', then this is certainly a course you should be considering. Many people view this course to be heading down the technical diving route. While this is largely true, it is not always the case. It may just be that you are looking to expand your knowledge and skills or wish to maximise your time on the dive. Others may have found themselves "doing a bit of deco" (!) on their computers before, and have realised they should have a better understanding of the theory behind doing this.
The reason are many and varied...!!!
Why TDI Decompression Proceedures?
This course examines the theory, methods and procedures of planned stage decompression diving. This program is designed as a stand-alone course or it may be taught in conjunction with such TDI courses as Advanced Nitrox Course, Advanced Wreck Course, or Extended Range Course. The objective of this course is to train divers how to plan and conduct a standard staged decompression dive not exceeding a maximum depth of 45m unless taught in conjunction with the Extended Range Course. The most common equipment requirements, gear set-up, and decompression techniques are presented. Students are permitted to utilize Enriched Air Nitrox mixes or oxygen for decompression provided the gas mix is within their current certification level.

What will I do?
Prior to beginning the course you will be given the 'TDI Advanced Nitrox' workbook. As with all our training we ask you to complete the knowledge reviews before you arrive for your academic presentation. There is also a written exam and a kit orientation. If the course is done as a stand alone, 4 dives with a minimum bottom time of 100 minutes are required (two dives must be 30+ metres). If the course is combined with 'Advanced Nitrox' then only 6 dives are required to cover the two courses.
Subject areas covered include :
Physics Review
Physiology Review
Formulas Review
Equipment Considerations
Dive table review
Dive computers
Dive Planning
Decompression Theory
Decmpression gas choice
Ascent / Descent Techniques
Decompression stations / types
Surface Support considerations
How long will it take?
The course requires two days to cover all required material. This will involve a mixture of both theory classes / briefs (approximately 6 hours) and open water dives (at least four with a total bottom time of 100 minutes)
What previous experience do I need?
Anyone wishing to enrol on this course must be a minimum age of 18 and be already hold a minimum certification of PADI / SDI Advanced Open Water Diver (or equivalent from another training agency). In addition, you would need to be able to provide proof of at least 25 open water dives, including some experience of UK diving.
What do the fees include?
- All professional tuition
- Oxygen analysers required for course
- Decompression Proccedures Course Manual
- Insurance costs while on the course
- All registration fees with TDI upon completion
What don't fees include?
- Entry fee to dive site used for the Open Water dives
- Costs of transportation to and from dive sites
- Any 'personal' costs (eg. food, drink, accommodation)
- Any air/nitrox fills required for dives.
- Hire of any equipment
What's next?
This for many will be the course that opens up a huge number of dives previously beyond the scope of their training. The course leaves you qualifed to go out and perform staged decompression dives up to a depth of 45 metres. There are plenty of skills introduced on the course to go out and practice and refine.
Later on, you can start looking to enrol on TDI course that build further upon everything that you have learnt here. The TDI Extended Range, Advanced Wreck or Entry Level Trimix course are alll courses to take your diving further.
