GREAT NEWS FOR OUR POOL SESSIONS - 29th December 2008

Fitzalan Pool 'OPEN' Sessions

We are very pleased to let everyone know that we are able to restart our 'OPEN' Pool sessions in Fitzalan High School. The renovation work is completed and we have access again from Monday 5th January 2009.

We will therefore hold our Monday and Thursday sessions on the same basis as we did previously.

There will be a charge for the sessions as follows:

OPTION 1

Cardiff Scuba Pool Group:

Costs £40 per year or £15 for under 16's - for unlimited use of the pool.

The pool sessions can be used at your convenience on a Monday BUT access to the Thursday sessions will need to be checked in advance by calling Rob or Ian on 2061 5161.

Pool group members will also receive other benefits:

5% discount in the shop (except for weights, cylinders courses and any other special offers.
Priority booking on Cardiff Scuba Dive Trips - see Calender.
Should you need to hire any kit for the pool sessions there will be flat-rate charge of £1.00 (£2.00 for non-members) - irrespective of needing one item or a full-kit.
Cheaper airfills at the shop £2.00 (normal £3.00).
Regular special offers exclusive to 'Pool Group' members

OPTION 2

PAY - AS - YOU - GO

If you would like to use the pool less frequently then opt for the pay-per-session offer and use the pool as often or as little as you like.

Flat-rate charge of £3 per session - £1.50 for those under 16years old.

There are no other benefits linked to this option - except:

Should you need to hire any kit for a session then there will be a flat-rate charge of £2.50 (This applies whether you need one item of kit or a full-set).

SESSION TIMES

Both Monday and Thursday sessions will be from 7pm - 9.30pm. There will be a 30 minute slot at the start and end of each session to allow for kitting up and de-kitting.

If you wish to hire any kit for a session then we ask that you contact either Rob or Ian at the shop [2061 5161] NO LATER THAN 3PM on the day of the session. This will allow us to ensure that we have sufficient kit available for use.

There will always be at least One Instructor/Divemaster in the water at each session as well as one person 'on-the-door'.

Oxygen and First AID will be available during the session.

Please note: The pool session on the Thursday will be primarily for the use of Cardiff Scuba for teaching. Therefore it will be wise to contact us to ensure that there is free pool space available should you wish to use any Thursday session.

We look forward to hosting these sessions again and to seeing many familiar, as well as new, faces enjoying the fun and support offered by Cardiff Scuba in a safe and friendly environment.

EFR UPDATE SPECIAL - 28th October 2008

Do you need to renew/update your current EFR certification?

CARDIFF SCUBA are offering you the opportunity to renew your EFR skills by enrolling in this update session.

Emphasis will be on the practical apsect of Emergency First Response together with a brief update on current changes in practice.

Date is FRIDAY 5th DECEMBER and the cost is £35 per person inclusive of re-certification.

RESCUE Diver & EFR SPECIAL - 28th October 2008

We are offering a VERY SPECIAL deal on these two courses.

Assistant Instructor Course - 9th September 2008

We are pleased to announce our next Assistant Instructor Course / OWSI programme in conjunction with West Wales Divers as follows:

Aqualung Titan Recall - 9th August 2008

Titan Din Screws Recall - IMPORTANT

Aqualung have issued a recall notice that will affect some owners of Titan Regulators with a DIN connection.

It is importent that all owners of these regulators check to see if their equipment is affected. All first stages whose serial no is LOWER than 6062501 are requested to return their regulator to us at the shop for a FREE upgrade.

If you are unsure if your regulator is affected, please give us a call and we can assist you.

Red sea Trip October 2008 - 22nd February 2008

In line with our comittment to offer a wide range of services, we are organising yet another trip to Sharm El Shiekh - this time in conjunction with Cardiff Phoenix Divers. Our most recent trip saw 50 people all having a fantastic time.

Destination: Sharm El Shiekh

Dates: 2nd to 9th October 2008

Cost: £572 per person (diving) plus cost of coach to Gatwick. The price may vary depending on the availabilty of seats on the plane. The longer you leave it the dearer it becomes.

Red Sea Trip January 2008 - 3rd February 2008

Another successful trip was enjoyed by all 50 divers on the latest Cardiff Scuba dive trip to the Red Sea.

Supported by Rob, Majid and Matthew, 12 colleagues successfully completed their Adavanced Open Water certification. Brynada did a fantastic Peak Performance Specialty, with Marilyn adding Night Diver Speciality to her growing list of ceertificatioins.

Of special note and achievment was Samantha Spragg and William Jones who completd their Junior Advanced Open Water certification. They continue to excel in their diving skills, impressing all those who shared the boat with them.

Congratulations to everyone. EFR and RESCUE diver next!!!!!

The trip was the first visit to Egypt by some the group. No doubt it wont be their last.

The next trip will be at the end of October. Bookings open soon.

MASTER SEAL Success - 21st December 2007

The 20th December saw the completion of another very successful MASTER SEAL course.

Congratulations to Jonathan Kidby, Thomas Nevens, Ellie Jones, Elliott Gregory, Kye LeFeuvre, Keiran Headon, Fraser Gregory and Owain Atkins.

All of the students were presented with their Master Seal Certification cards, Wall certificate and badge.

A BIG thank-you to all of the support divers who helped make the course a roaring success.

New Weekend Open Water Course Programme for 2008 - 9th December 2007

At Cardiff Scuba we are always keen to provide courses and other services at dates and times to suit our clients.

In 2006 we introduced our Open Water Course over 4 evenings and 1 weekend, thereby completing the course in 2 weeks. This proved to be highly successful - affording us the award of the highest PADI Open Water certifying school in Wales - and so this programme will continue through 2008.

However, we recognise that not everyone can commit to 2 training evenings each week for two weeks, especially in today's hectic work schedules.

For 2008 we are therefore offering the PADI Open Water qualification over two weekends.

This [slightly intensive] course would also suit those who take up the new 'e' learning opportunity offered by PADI where, the theory component is completed on-line in students own time and at their own pace. This is then followed by the Confined Water skills [pool sessions] and Open Water certifying dives weekend. Note: Students using this facility must have registered with Cardiff Scuba as their training base.

The course schedule is: Saturday morning in the classroom [9am - 12Noon] followed by the Saturday afternoon in the pool [1pm - 4pm]. Then the Sunday morning again in the classroom [9am - 12 Noon] followed by the afternoon in the pool. [1pm - 4pm]. The Open Water weekend will then be held at The National Diving and Activity Centre in Chepstow [8am - 2pm] both days.

We have managed to arrange the following dates for our forthcoming MASTER SEAL TEAM Course. All sessions will be held at Fitzalan High School and will begin at 7 O'clock. The dates for the TEN Aquamissions are as follows :

Emergency First Response Update Sessions - 19th August 2007

During October, November & December we will be offering an update session for those who need to re-new their EFR certification. Dates will be posted on our website calendar. Local costs can be as a high as £50 - £60 for this update session but we will offer the update for only £45 per person - including re-registration.

Another cost cutting offer by CARDIFF SCUBA to support diver development.

The course will be facilitated by Rob who is an MSDT and is one of the highest certifying Scuba Instructors in the UK. He has 30years of teaching CPR skills to a wide range of Medical staff, Nursing staff and the general public. His knowlwdge & skills are widely recognised for this course. Customers express a very high level of satisfaction on completion.

RED SEA 2008 - 13th August 2007

The planning for our SCUBA trip in January 2008 is now complete. We will be heading out to Sharm El Sheikh on January 19th.

We have two boats booked for diving and the Hotel accommodation will be at the new Viking Club on the outskirts of Sharm. The resort is a 10-minute drive from Sharm International Airport.

This brand new hotel has been built in a traditional village style by the owners of the popular Viking Nile cruises and offers a good standard accommodation with a relaxed atmosphere. Located in Naama Bay and just 5 minutes walk from the beach-front and centre of the resort with its many shops, bars, restaurants and clubs.

60 tastefully decorated rooms all with either a garden or pool view and a private balcony or terrace. All the air-conditioned rooms feature en-suite facilities, satellite TV, mini-bar, hairdryer and in-room safe.

This trip has proven to be very popular and so we have increased the number of spaces available. To date 37 places are taken which leaves 13 available. A deposit of £250 is required to secure your place. Non-diving partners are welcome.

SEAL Team Completes - 10th August 2007

This week saw the successful completion of yet another PADI SEAL team course. The group consisted of Thomas, Ellie, Fraser, Owain, Elliot and Jonathan.

All of the group showed great skills development and confidence in the water.

CONGRATULATIONS to all of the group and we look forward to taking you through the MASTER SEAL TEAM course very shortly.

We also thank the groups parents for allowing us the privilege of teaching this group of youngsters.

Finding time to learn SCUBA a problem???? - 18th July 2007

If you have a busy schedule or difficult shift patterns and find it diificult to find the time to fit into one of our many set school schedules - then don't despair.

We regularly organise sessions for those who need a greater degree of flexibility in undertaking a SCUBA course. Recently this has included many members of the general public as well as Medical staff, Paramedics and Firemen.

We run theory session during the day as well as Saturdays and Sundays.

We have pool sessions available on a Saturday or Sunday.

We can take you through your Open Water certifying dives on a weekday.

We will work with you to ensure you have a positive experience throughout your course and we commit to working with you to ensure you are successful in your desire to join the SCUBA family.

For an extra charge we can also organise your course on a one-to-one basis and will customize courses for individual groups.

We recently carried out the theory classes for a group at their workplace and another school group at their school.

NEW PADI SEAL TEAM COURSE - 7th June 2007

We have agreed dates for the next PADI SEAL TEAM course as follows:

All 5 sessions will be held on a Thursday evening at Fitzalan High School Pool, Lawrenny Avenue, Cardiff.

Arrive at the pool 7.15pm

In the water 7.30pm - Out of the water 8.30pm

Complete logs books and finish by 8.45pm

Cost: Initial lesson to inlcude all SCUBA kit, air, pool entry, insurance, Log book, Video, Workbook @ £50.00 payable on booking.

The following four sessions will be £25 per session, payable on the night.

Cardiff Scuba named NUMBER ONE - 22nd May 2007

Cardiff Scuba has been named by PADI as THE NUMBER ONE teaching school in Wales with more certifications than any other PADI dive school this year. In addition - at this time - we are also in 6th position in the UK!!!

This recognition highlights our committment and flexibility to provoding a quality service. We aim to keep our number 1 position in Wales and to improve our National rating.

Both Ian & Rob thank all of our colleagues who have supported us and helped the business grow.

Two more new Instructors!! - 14th May 2007

We have another two new instructors.

Liam and David passed their Open Water Instructors Examinations this past weekend and are now fully fledged OWSI's. CONGRATULATIONS guys.

The 'boys' have worked hard and supported Cardiff Scuba regularly over the last 14 months. Ian and Rob look forward to supporting them in their continued development.

We all give them our best wishes and the very best of luck for all their future instructing. Does Australia know what is coming their way in 2009?!?!?!

Many of you know Majid and we are sure you will join us in congratulating him on successfully completing his Open Water Scuba Instructor exams. Majid has worked consistenly over the past year to build his knowledge and experience. He has supported Rob & Ian with many courses and helped numerous students enjoy their training experience.

Majid now joins us as an instructor and will no doubt continue to to enhance the scuba scuba experience of those students who join us at Cardiff Scuba.

Wreck Speciality - 12th April 2007

The dates for our next Wreck Speciality Course have been confimed. Have a look here for the details.

The open water dives will be boat dives from Plymouth. Weather and tides permitting, we plan to do two dives on both the Scylla and the James Eagan Layne (arguably one of the most popular wreck dives in the UK!) over the weekend. More info on these wrecks here.

The next SEAL TEAM course is now available for bookings. The course will run on 5 consecutive Friday evenings from 7.30 to 9.00pm The dates are April 27th, May 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th. The sessions will be held at Howells Pool and Fitzalan School.

Junior Open Water Course - 15th February 2007

The first Junior Open Water Course will be held in April.

The course will be open to 12 - 14 year olds. The only adults who can join this course will be a parent / guardian who would like to undertake the course at the same time. Note: The adults will gain the adult Open Water certification on successful completion of the course.

IDC COURSE - January 2007 - 5th January 2007

Our first A.I. / I.D.C. course has now completed. The course was facilitated by Lee Smallwood, a very experienced PADI Course Director. All 4 candidates completed successfully after 7 long days of hard work and gained their PADI Assistant Instructor rating.

The guys will now prepare to take the final Instructor Examinations in March.

Our thanks to Lee and his colleague Andy, for giving us a marvellous course full of challenges and opportunities. Everyone enjoyed it and learned loads.

Cardiff Scuba SEAL/MASTER SEAL Club - 24th December 2006

We are pleased to announce the formation of the Cardiff Scuba SEAL / MASTER SEAL Club.

The club will offer a once-a-month pool session for qualified SEALS and MASTER SEALS. The sessions will be held in Howells School Pool from 7.30pm to 8.45pm.
